Network for the listeners of the MedicCast EMS Podcast

Hi all. New to MedicCast Im a Medic in Hamilton, ON.
Anyway Im really looking at getting into studying 12 Leads but am not quite sure where to start, I have my texts from college but was hoping to start with something a little more "dumbed down". Anyone out there know of any internet resources or books available?
Thanks

Adam.

I have several that I think are quite good. The one that was recommended most highly by just about everyone was 'Rapid Interpretation of EKG's' by Dale Dubin. It goes into a bit of A&P with how the EKG looks at the heart, and really gets you to analyze the EKG, rather than just memorizing what rhythms look like. I wouldn't call it 'dumbed down,' but I would call it...'all-inclusive.' It starts out with the basics, and reviews what you've already read in just about every chapter. Best part...it can be found on amazon.com.

The rest are at home, and I am not, so I can't get you the names now, but I will try this evening.

Adam,

I would most highly recommend Bob Page's 12-Lead ECG for Acute and Critical Care Providers. Click on the Amazon Link here to get the book delivered now. Bob offers one of the most entertaining and informative seminars on 12 leads via his MultiLead Medics program. His classes are always humorous and educational and you end up reading hundreds of 12 leads in the course of his program. His book is a bit dryer in nature simply because it is a book and he was restrained from presenting his usual wit and commentary by the publisher.

I hope that helps.

I want to second the recomendation for the book: 'Rapid Interpretation of EKG's' by Dale Dubin
This is a very basic book presented in a format that is very easy to understand. Most importantly it gives you some the reasons why you are seeing what you are seeing.
If you don't understand the conduction system of the heart and how the monitor displays that information, IMO you won't ever be able to truly understand what you are seeing. Memorizing what the various ECG tracings are or memorzing 12 lead findings will never get you to where you need to be. Understanding what is going on in order for the monitor to display the waveform it is displaying is the important part.
The Dubin book gives you the basics of that and should be a good way to get started. I purchased my first volume of that book many years ago when we first started doing 12 leads in the field. Since that time I have given copies of that book to several of my friends who decided to attend a paramedic program as gifts.

Teaching kids how to use 911

From time to time a news story emerges about a toddler dialing 911 and summoning help for an adult in distress. Aside from the wonder most of us feel at the presence of mind these little people display, it brings up an interesting point about teaching children about the emergency system in general, and when it’s appropriate for them to call for help.

NBC’s Trauma showing signs of life…

Rumors are swirling around the internet that,  thanks to a recent ratings boost, the love-it-or-hate-it Trauma may be resuscitated by NBC after all.

NBC had planned to run the original 13 episodes that it had ordered, but now rumor has it that more episodes are forthcoming. Some believe that the ever-perplexing Nielsen ratings are responsible, but others believe that a groundswelling of fan support has tipped the scales in the show’s favor. Apparently there’s a #savetrauma campaign on Twitter, and fan fiction has sprung up surrounding the characters, always a sign of true fan loyalty.
