It is much better than the previous model! :) The Mk. 6 has a better acceleration, is much larger and is much smoother! (that's only half of it) Take care. Enjoy the new merc!!

Nice to see the new livery in use. I'm with SJA in Canada, and we haven't started using it yet.

Hey VAO, many thanks for the info.........now that is a very good amtiemetic! We have been using it for post-op nausea & vomiting for many years, I remember when it first came out in the 90's.........but if Wilks has his way you will get Midaz ha ha

Thanks for that VAO, last I heard Wilkes was trying to get us to trial Midazolam as the antiemetic of course, a property that not even the FDA approves the drug for?? How many other countries in the world use Midaz as an anti-emetic.....ZERO! Why try to reinvent the wheel [other than to be able to wrte a paper on it], why not use Maxalon or one of the other proven enti-emetics.......why trial a drug regime that the rest of the world has been using for a decade??
Plus, at the end of the day, with a 10-30 minute transport time to a Hospital, plus the fact you don't use Morphine..........is there a need for an anti-emetic? Why not let Paramedics use 50% D instead or introduce Long Spine Boards/ KEDS??

Welcome to EMS St John Style!!

Yea, thanks for that........the reason that you do not see Paramedics using thermometers is that SJA does not issue them!!

The thing that has to change is SJA running the EMS in WA, they should stick to running the first aid services like they do everywhere else in the world!!

Hi Buddy

Yes NT is still run by SJA but under Govt rules [they took over SJA when they found out they were running two sets of books.............].
The Anti -Emetic trial is a farce, Dr Wilkes the Medical Director [the same guy who wants to take intubation off the Paramedic skill sheet by the way] wanted to use Midazolam as an Anti-Emetic [even though the FDA dont even recognise that it has anti-emetic properties..........]. It was his little pet plan.........I now believe that the trial has stopped!
The Adrenaline [PACA] trial was also Gary's little project; Lets face it, how many other [much larger] studies have proven that pre-hospital adrenaline does not improve long term survival. Now crews are spending approx 40 mins at a resus scene, and potentially squirting salt water into them when they could be P1 into the closest clinical unit for definitive cardiac care.
SJA Paramedics dont even have thermometers to test core temp.......
SJA don't have 12 lead ECG's!!!
SJA use Methoxyflurane, when the ex-medical director [now consultant to SJA] is on the board of directors of the company that supplies Methoxyflurane.........would that be a conflict if interest???

The uniform has been about to change for the last 4 years. The uniform is dangerous and S&H once told me that the only reason we have it is so that we met the 'Corporate Image'. I was involved with the design process and evaluation of the 'unsafe uniform'. When do you ever see FESA attend an MVA without full PPE???
SJA are the laughing stock of WA, when was the last time we did training with FESA, god forbid that we have a major disaster in WA...........Oh that's right we did. A bus full of old people in an MVA with multiple casualties........who was the response?? the local Voli's! Th elocal Voli's had to deal with a major incident due to the fact that SJA had no Paramedics to send..................

Need I give more examples why SJA should not be running the EMS VAO??

SJA are a joke, and I am so happy that I don't have to put up with their shit any longer.

What is shit about SJA? Where do I start?
No Backboards
No KEDS
No Anti-Emetic
No Continuation Training
Using Paramedics for Transport Crew to cater for their private contracts and thus leaving no Paramedic Cover for Metro Area. I 20 min P1 call is not unusual.
Shutting Depots because to send Paramedics up to the Mines [and getting paid twice for the same AP's].
Shit uniform that has NO protective properties!
They allow office managers that have not been on the road for 18 years to work on the road as a Paramedic!
They are a Private Transport Service posing as the State Emergency Service......they do not provide EMS cover in Metro Area, let alone Country WA!
The only State to have a private Company running their EMS.............

........lets's face it, if the Govt offered to disband the Police force and hire Chubb Security to do the job, what would you say? If you had to pay to call Police to a breakin?? If the Country towns had to provide their own Police force, then they had to buy their own police car, uniform and equipment etc etc..................go figure, what's the difference with letting a private company provide the EMS??
How perverse that a company that makes Millions of $$$ a year [and can afford to build a huge new HQ] but still charges the public to call and Ambulance!!
Lets face it, they get the vehicles from Lotto [then sell the used one to the country depots!!], the State pays 80% of the wages..........yet they still charge the public $500+ to call a life saving service......

need I go on???

Teaching kids how to use 911

From time to time a news story emerges about a toddler dialing 911 and summoning help for an adult in distress. Aside from the wonder most of us feel at the presence of mind these little people display, it brings up an interesting point about teaching children about the emergency system in general, and when it’s appropriate for them to call for help.

NBC’s Trauma showing signs of life…

Rumors are swirling around the internet that,  thanks to a recent ratings boost, the love-it-or-hate-it Trauma may be resuscitated by NBC after all.

NBC had planned to run the original 13 episodes that it had ordered, but now rumor has it that more episodes are forthcoming. Some believe that the ever-perplexing Nielsen ratings are responsible, but others believe that a groundswelling of fan support has tipped the scales in the show’s favor. Apparently there’s a #savetrauma campaign on Twitter, and fan fiction has sprung up surrounding the characters, always a sign of true fan loyalty.
