Basic skills are certainly used far more frequently than ALS skills. In fact, if you are doing it right, BLS skills are used prior to ALS skills on every call. As far as BLS accessment skills, I think that many people get away from using hands on ...

I think that too many EMT-P's/ Paramedics loose their Basic Life Support skills............we need to constantly go back and reevaluate and brush up on those skills!

The WANTYNU TK1 EMS oxygen wrench is one of the most amazing EMT tools reviewed here at the MedicCast. Built tough for field use because it was designed by a paramedic just for us! This is a perfect gift or equipment purchase.

Hey, just wanted to thank you for the podcasts!
I stumbled onto your podcasts while randomly searching
i-tunes and of all the podcasts I have attempted to listen too I am pleased to say I am a frequent flyer of yours!!
Keep up the great work, the shows are very helpful.
I am always looking at new ways to improve my skills as a Paramedic, with just 3 years experience and recently starting in a larger city with a much greater and challenging call volume than I had when I first began.
Keep up the great work!!
Adam.

Hi Jamie,
I think the Mediccast Forum is a great idea, but I have problems navigating around it - it is not very well laid out. Would you consider going to a 'classic' php forum structure, for example http://forums.digitalpoint.com/ ?
Has anyone else mentioned anything similar?

Hi Jamie,
I am a short time listener, but have become loyal and have been listening to a lot of your old podcasts. Your shows are very informative and I will continue to listen. I have even turned my wife, and RN, on to your nurse cast.
I wanted to let you know about a valuable resource I stumbled upon today. I have been preparing to take the NREMT Paramedic written for the 3rd time. I aced my class and the practical portion, but have really been struggling with the written. I have tried several prep books and some online practice tests.
Several podcasts ago, you had a listener ask about audio suplements to study. I found ( audible.com) If you go to audible.com you can search for paramedic books. I have downloaded the vango notes for Paramedic Care: Principles and practice. You can download all volumes by chapter for $2.99 or all chapters for $19.99 for each volume. WOW!!
I think this will be the tool that puts me over the top. Please pass this on to your listeners and let me know if you have any other advice to help me ramp up to take this test again.
Thanks

NBC’s Trauma showing signs of life…

Rumors are swirling around the internet that,  thanks to a recent ratings boost, the love-it-or-hate-it Trauma may be resuscitated by NBC after all.

NBC had planned to run the original 13 episodes that it had ordered, but now rumor has it that more episodes are forthcoming. Some believe that the ever-perplexing Nielsen ratings are responsible, but others believe that a groundswelling of fan support has tipped the scales in the show’s favor. Apparently there’s a #savetrauma campaign on Twitter, and fan fiction has sprung up surrounding the characters, always a sign of true fan loyalty.

CSI for EMS

EMS personnel are an invaluable part of a crime scene, and their unique observations can greatly impact the course of investigation, according to Beonicia Loveless, Medical Examiner Investigator and Child Abuse Investigator for the State of Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Ms. Loveless gave a presentation called “Crime Scene Etiquette for EMS” that went beyond the usual basics of not disturbing the scene or cutting through bullet holes.

Iraqi police learn from US Army medics

It’s not often that positive news comes out of Iraq. So it’s refreshing to hear that medics from the 252nd Combined Arms Battalion, 30th Heavy Brigade Combat Team are teaching Iraqi federal police medical skills used to treat traumatic injuries. Part of the Iraqi Security Agreement, security forces in Baghdad are learning the skills they’ll need to stand on their own when the US forces eventually leave.

Bicycle ambulances saving lives in Africa

For most EMS professionals, state-of-the-art equipment and gadgetry, not to mention ambulances that are quickly becoming rolling ERs, is pretty much par for the course. But a recent story from Malawi shows that sometimes the most low-tech solutions are really all that’s needed to save lives.
