Hey guys

We use IV & IM Ketamine here, it is a wonderful drug for trauma, any one out there use it?

We recently had a cardiac arrest and it took 2 EMT's 7 attempts to get an IV, which we had to do en route; tonight our medical director announced we are getting the EZ IO (battery operated drill to insert IO's) and that will become our standard for cardiac arrest. I have seen the "sales" videos for these and they look great, but has anybody out there used them, and are they as good as they look or too good to be true?

Rob,

We are in the process of getting the EZ-IO in my area. I have had a chance to try them out in a recent vascular access class and I have to say that they seem to work really well. They are a bit pricey per use and I think that there will need to be controls in place to standardize their use. But -- If you have a confirmed arrest, with an EZ-IO you would have vascular access within 2 minutes of arrival if you wanted it. That's unprecedented when you think about it.
